A New Hypersonic Missile Is Being Developed By Tucson-Based Raytheon Unit (From Tuscon.com)

Lexington COO Loren Thompson was quoted in Tuscon.com, a Tuscon, Arizona-based news outlet, in a piece discussing Raytheon’s new contract with the Pentagon to develop a hypersonic missile. The Raytheon unit developing the missile is based out of Tuscon.

Though the program has been well received in Congress, the House Appropriations Committee has proposed slashing funding for hypersonics research, making securing such funding more competitive. “There is wide support for hypersonic missile development in Congress, but only the most promising concepts will win funding,” said Thompson. “Hypersonics are the flavor of the year at the Pentagon, but it’s not clear all of the programs will go forward.”
