Marillyn Hewson Finds A Timely Successor To Lead Lockheed Martin (From Forbes)

March 16, 2020Loren B. Thompson, Ph.D

The world’s biggest military contractor disclosed a change in leadership on Monday. Lockheed Martin Chairman & CEO Marillyn Hewson will relinquish her job to James Taiclet on June 15. Taiclet, currently Chairman & CEO of American Tower, is a former Air Force pilot who regularly is ranked as one of the nation’s top-performing corporate leaders. He has served on the Lockheed board since 2018, and Hewson urged his fellow directors to select Taiclet as her successor. Like Hewson, Taiclet is very accomplished, but there is one way in which he seems to differ from Hewson and her peers at other military contractors: he comes from a commercial company. That may just be a coincidence, or it may be an indication of where the whole defense sector is headed in the years ahead as the Pentagon turns increasingly to non-traditional military suppliers. I have written a commentary for Forbes here.
