The Importance of Quality School Options for Military Children

April 28, 2017April 28, 2017Don Soifer

Lexington’s Don Soifer interviewed on The Kojo Nnamdi Show on WAMU 88.5 FM in Washington DC.  Along with Education Week correspondent Kavitha Cardoza, he discusses the specific educational challenges facing the nation’s 1.2 million military-connected students, and growing evidence of the connection between addressing these challenges and supporting the nation’s military readiness.  Topics include helping families navigate frequent moves related to deployments, public policy solutions like enrollment preferences for military-connected students and the work of the Interstate Compact on Educational Opportunity for Military Children, and recent progress on a new public charter school at Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling and the promising track record of charters on military bases.
