Boeing Defense Headquarters Moving To The Nation’s Capital (From Forbes)

December 13, 2016December 14, 2016Loren B. Thompson, Ph.D

The Boeing Company has decided to move the headquarters of its defense and space unit to the nation’s capital from Saint Louis, joining a migration that in recent decades has seen most of the Pentagon’s biggest suppliers relocate top brass to the D.C suburbs.  However, none of Boeing’s competitors in the defense space have managed to set up shop quite so close to the Pentagon as Boeing Defense, which will be literally within walking distance of the military nerve center.  That’s what Boeing defense chief Leanne Caret wanted — to get as close to her biggest customer as possible, so that she could meet within a few minutes if necessary.  Saint Louis will be losing a few executives to Washington in the move, but over the long haul being where the action is could help Caret save thousands of defense-related jobs in the Saint Louis area.  I have written a commentary for Forbes here.
