It’s Back To The Future With Mobile Protected Firepower (From The National Interest)

May 5, 2017May 8, 2017Daniel Gouré, Ph.D.

The Army is again attempting to build what might be best described as a light tank, the Mobile Protected Firepower vehicle. The Army’s basic problem is that it has too many infantry brigades that lack sufficient mobile combat systems and indirect fire support. A commander cannot keep detaching heavy armored vehicles to support infantry. So the Army decided to provide their own mobile heavy firepower. It is choosing to look at designs based on mature technologies in order to speed up development, reduce risk and lower costs. I have written about this for The National Interest here.
