Despite being at war for the past 16 years, few Americans understand the extent of the U.S. Air Force’s role in Iraq and Afghanistan. This is because available information is incomplete, highly technical, and frequently classified. With the reveal of President Trump’s strategy in South Asia, it is now even more important that Americans understand the Air Force’s role in the region. These efforts have gone a long way towards combating extremist organizations, and helping Iraq and Afghanistan build self-sufficient security forces. I have written commentary on this topic for RealClearDefense here.
