Feds Likely To Approve Of Raytheon, UTC Deal (From CT Mirror)

The Lexington Institute’s Loren Thompson was quoted in the Connecticut Mirror on November 8, commenting on the proposed merger between Raytheon and United Technologies. Of the chances of the Department of Defense greenlighting it, he said, “there is a 100 percent probability that the Trump administration will approve the merger.”

Thompson explained that one reason for this is “little overlap between Raytheon and UTC that would pose anti-trust issues for the federal government.” Though this would be a huge merger, he continued, “there is nothing in it that would reduce competition.” Thompson also predicted that political ideology would be “another reason the federal government is likely to green light the merger,” because while the Obama administration had a policy of opposing mergers between the nation’s top five defense firms, the Trump administration seems to take the opposite view.
