The U.S. Army Defeats Itself More Often Than All Its Enemies Combined (From National Interest)

July 1, 2016July 1, 2016Daniel Gouré, Ph.D.

The Army faces a dilemma. Over the past quarter century, it cancelled virtually every major acquisition program it started. As a result, it is now in a position in which it is behind likely major adversaries with respect to lethality, force protection, air and missile defense and electronic warfare. Starting new programs now would provide benefits in 2035, but a war may come much sooner. The Army needs to focus like a laser beam (maybe with a laser beam) on what upgrades and innovations it can get into the force in the next five years. For all any of us know, after that we may be at war. I have written a commentary for The National Interest here.
