The Root Cause Of Mail Delays: Booming Package Volumes (Infographic)

February 24, 2021February 24, 2021Paul Steidler

The root cause for historic mail delays at the U.S. Postal Service (USPS) is the high package volumes being handled. While Postmaster General Louis DeJoy instituted service directives last summer, these were in effect for just six weeks and ended on August 18, 2020. Since mid-November 2020 first-class mail service has been far worse than over the summer. Package volume spiked during this time, with on-time first-class mail service plummeting. Congress should demand a plan from USPS so on-time first-class mail delivery returns to 91 percent by March 23, 2021.
