Pilots Say F-35 Fighter Is A Winner. So Where’s The Media Coverage? (from Forbes)

September 6, 2016September 7, 2016Loren B. Thompson, Ph.D

In the 15 years since the development contract for the tri-service F-35 fighter was first awarded, the program has been subjected to frequent negative reporting from national media.  A raft of real or imagined problems was dissected, sometimes in great detail.  But now the program is sailing along smartly, with program managers and pilots alike praising the F-35’s performance.  Great news right?  Well, judging from the lack of coverage, it’s no news at all.  It seems outlets like CNN and the New York Times only want to report information about new weapons being developed for America’s military when something has gone wrong.  If everything is progressing steadily, it’s not worth reporting — even if it is the Pentagon’s biggest program.  I have written a commentary for Forbes here.
