Letters: Congress Has Neglected Postal Reform For Years (From The Boston Globe)

April 16, 2020April 17, 2020Paul Steidler

A letter to the editor of The Boston Globe penned by the Lexington Institute’s Paul Steidler addresses the Globe’s April 14 editorial “The postal service has never been more valuable — or more endangered.” It takes the editorial board to task for “letting Congress off the hook for long neglecting postal reform,” said Steidler.

Steidler also emphasizes the Trump administration’s willingness to pursue postal reform, efforts which include negotiating a new deal in 2019 with the United Nations’ Universal Postal Union that will eliminate up to $500 million in annual Postal Service losses. Meanwhile, in this session of Congress, the U.S. House of Representatives “has held only one hearing on postal reform legislation, and reform legislation has not been introduced.”

The full letter to the editor can be read here.
