Five Ways Killing Ex-Im Bank Would Really Hurt America (From Forbes)

April 13, 2015April 13, 2015Loren B. Thompson, Ph.D

The wrong-headed campaign that congressional conservatives have launched to block reauthorization of America’s export credit agency won’t do anything to reverse the serious challenges facing America, such as out-of-control federal borrowing and a burgeoning welfare state. However, that is not to say the campaign will have no impact if it succeeds. Among other things, it will encourage predatory trade practices by other countries; exclude thousands of small businesses from foreign trade; further weaken U.S. manufacturing; widen an already huge trade deficit; and confirm that legislators care more about ideology than common sense. When did conservatives become anti-business activists who prefer the views of Washington intellectuals over the interests of Main Street Americans? Wasn’t that supposed to be a liberal franchise? I have written a commentary for Forbes here.
