America’s Industrial Might Is Working To End The Drone Threat (From The National Interest)

June 15, 2017June 15, 2017Daniel Gouré, Ph.D.

Countering hostile drones has become a priority for the U.S. military, particularly the Army and Marine Corps. The response by industry and government laboratories to this urgent need for means of detecting and defeating hostile drones has been nothing short of remarkable. Various solutions have been developed to counter these threats. ELTA North America’s Drone Guard can detect even hovering quadrotors out farther than a kilometer and then employ countermeasures.  Battelle’s DroneDefender is a rifle-like device that uses radio waves to jam the drone’s communication links, which generally forces it to land. The Sierra Nevada Corporation’s SkyCAP system, a derivative of its current operationally deployed, dismounted Advanced EW System, can block electronic signals to and from the drone. I have written more about counter-UAS systems for The National Interest here.
