The Air War That Is Defeating ISIS (From RealClearDefense)

August 8, 2017Daniel Gouré, Ph.D.

News reports regarding the campaign to defeat ISIS tend to focus on the ebb and flow of ground wars in Iraq and Syria. What has been little recognized and certainly under-reported is the successes of the air campaign run by U.S. Central Command supporting not only of the fight against ISIS but also that against the Taliban in Afghanistan. The air campaign against ISIS is a clear example of the “shock and awe” that modern air forces can achieve. While it is true that none of this country’s wars have been won by a single service or by operations in only one domain, the role of airpower in the fight against ISIS has been remarkable. I have written more on this subject for RealClearDefense here.
