Lexington’s Don Soifer debates higher education finance with liberal television host Thom Hartmann on his nationally-syndicated television program “The Big Picture.” The host advocated expanding federal subsidies for higher education as the solution to the skyrocketing levels of student debt in the United States. Soifer advocated market oriented-policies instead, including increasing transparency so that students and taxpayers can gain understanding about why public colleges and universities find repeated tuition increases necessary.
